Synaptic Pruning Mechanisms in Learning

چکیده

1 –Independent Work Report, Spring 2015– Synaptic Pruning Mechanisms in Learning Abstract Synaptic pruning is the process of removing synapses in neural networks and has been considered to be a method of learning. During the developmental stages of the brain, synaptic pruning helps regulate efficiency and energy conservation. However, a destructive algorithm seems to be counter-intuitive to “learning.” When applied to association networks, pruning networks show evidence of learning associations when given good input. However, the pruning algorithm can be detrimental to network size and even limit learning for networks that are too small or have too high of a frequency threshold. For small networks, implementing constructive algorithm in addition to the pruning one may help ensure that a network continues to grow and learn.

P3: Mechanisms of TrkB-Mediated Hippocampal Long-Term Potentiation in Learning and Memory

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a process that certain types of synaptic stimulation lead to a long-lasting enhancement in the strength of synaptic transmission. Studies in recent years indicate the importance of molecular pathways in the development of memory and learning. Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) is a member of the neurotrophin receptor tyrosine kinase family, that its ligand is b...

P18: Signaling Pathway in Long-Term Potentiation

Synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system (CNS) of mammals has been discussed for many years. Several forms of synaptic plasticity of mammal’s CNS have been identified, such as those that occur in long-term potentiation (LTP). Different types of LTP have been observed in distinctive areas of the CNS of mammals. The hippocampus is one of the most important areas in the CNS that pla...

P26: Long-Term Potentiation: The Mechanisms of CaMKII in Lerarning and Memory

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a form of activity dependent plasticity that induced by high-frequency stimulation or theta burst stimulation and results in synaptic transmission. Several Studies have been shown that LTP is one of the most important processes in the CNS that plays an important role in learning and memory formation. Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a major...

Microglia in the pathogenesis of autism spectrum disorders.

Proper synaptic pruning is essential for the development of functional neural circuits. Impairments in synaptic pruning disrupt the excitatory versus inhibitory balance (E/I balance) of synapses, which may cause neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Recent studies have determined molecular mechanisms by which microglia, the brain's resident immune cells, engulf in...

Spatial Learning and Memory in Barnes Maze Test and Synaptic Potentiation in ‎Schaffer Collateral-CA1 Synapses of Dorsal Hippocampus in Freely Moving Rats

Introduction: Synaptic plasticity has been suggested as the primary physiological mechanism underlying memory formation. Many experimental approaches have been used to investigate whether the mechanisms underlying long-term potentiation (LTP) are activated during learning. Nevertheless, little evidence states that hippocampal-dependent learning triggers synaptic plasticity. In this study, we in...
